In addition to the cable release you get a much expanded self-timer, a long exposure timer, and exposure count control. Where you buy your gear matters. It has happened to all 3 of my TCN3’s that I have owned. It can funtion as a basic shutter release like the RSN3 even without a battery installed. For example, you can program the controller to wait five minutes, release the shutter, then controllsr a total of 25 exposures at five minute intervals.
